Hi there, I'm Jesse. I am the primary writer, editor, and moderator of Gever Hakam.

My background includes a variety of experiences. After high school, I spent a few years in the U.S. Army. While this helped me maintain structure during my wild and unsaved years, I did not like the restrictions and political nature of the military. So, I left to pursue college. My interest had always been toward medical school, which led me to study micro and molecular biology as an undergrad at the University of Maryland. This path even allowed me to work at a biomedical research facility for a few years, both in a molecular lab and in animal surgery. However, I became a Christian during my college years and mid-20s. By the time I finished college, the Lord was leading me toward ministry and missions instead. Following this direction, I spent a few years working on a Master of Divinity degree at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina. My interests were in the Bible, biblical languages, and philosophy. So, again following the Lord's leading, I decided to continue studying the Bible after graduation at Gateway Seminary in California. This degree was for a PhD in biblical studies, focused on the Hebrew Bible. Although I did not end up as a medical doctor helping people's bodies, by God's ironic providence I did become a doctor of the Bible helping to heal people's souls.

At the center of my life and amidst the many jobs I've done, my interest and focus have always been on serving the church and pointing people toward Jesus. It truly is a joy and a huge privilege to teach, train, encourage, and disciple God's people and to share the Good News of Christ with those who do not know him yet.
